What is a Feng Shui Home Inspection?

A Feng Shui home inspection is a professional, objective, visual examination of a home using Feng Shui Principles. Home buyers now entering the marketplace view Feng Shui inspections as a way to gain valuable information about the biggest purchase of their lifetime. It helps them to determine whether there are any major Feng Shui inadequacies at the time of purchase.

In most cases, Feng Shui home inspections are performed after a sales contract, conditional upon a satisfactory Feng Shui home inspection, has been accepted by the seller. The inspection can usually be arranged within a few days. The home buyer is strongly encouraged to attend the inspection, so that he/she can see first hand the workings of the home. It also represents an excellent opportunity for the prospective buyer to ask questions about the home and to discuss potential changes, upgrades, and additions.

Our inspection will also highlight the positive aspects of a home. In fact, many of the home inspector's observations or recommendations help to dispel the home buyer's anxieties, and provide useful suggestions.

Our service to the purchaser is primarily one of education. The goal of the inspector is to provide the purchaser with a better understanding of the Feng Shui and energy flow of the home in order that they can plan future upgrades and maintenance. After the inspection is completed, a written report will be prepared for the home buyer, documenting the results of the inspection.

The home inspection should not be confused with a Building Home Inspection, an appraisal, a municipal code inspection, an environmental audit, or a home owner's warranty.

What is Feng Shui?

"Feng Shui teaches us how to create harmony and balance around us," say many architects who uses the centuries-old art to design homes and businesses. The ideas date back at least 3,000 years, yet a growing number of architects and decorators are integrating Feng Shui ideas with contemporary building design.

Feng shui (pronounced fung shway) is an intuitive art. Designers and decorators claim that they can "feel" positive energy -- called ch'i. But architects who incorporate the Eastern philosophy are not guided by intuition alone. The ancient art prescribes lengthy and complex rules that may strike modern homeowners as quirky. For example, your home should not be built at the end of a dead-end road. Round pillars are better than square. Ceilings should be high and well-lit.

Stuck in your career? Trouble in your love life?
The root of your problems may be in the design of your home, say practitioners of the ancient Chinese philosophy, Feng Shui.

There are several different techniques in assessing the feng shui of a home:
  • Use a compass to establish the most beneficial placement of rooms
  • Draw on information from the ancient Chinese astrology, math and science teachings
  • Examine the surrounding land forms, streets, streams and buildings
  • Use a tool called the Bagua -- an octagonal chart outlining the most favourable placement for rooms
